Land Rover Discovery

a sad end to our Disco at the bottom of the page.

A little more then just the average vehicle! A curb weight stock and no added items of over 4400 pounds the Land Rover Discovery is a ball!  We are not ones to go deep into the woods off road but many of the trails we like to go on are many miles back on dirt roads and this takes us there with NO PROBLEM!  You know it is not just the normal SUV when you read the owners manual and you learn you can climb 45 degree hills, 20 degree inclines sideways, and it "RECOMMEND THAT AT LEAST 3 WHEELS ARE TOUCHING THE GROUND AT ONE TIME", and 20 inch deep water is fine over that you need a snorkel.  Yes I did say 20 inches deep and yes over that a snorkel.  Never thought of a truck going diving.   It is powered by a fairly small V-8 (3.9L) for smooth shifting and extra power. Also 4 wheel drive all the time for traction. When I turn to go home my girls (not quite 2 and 3 years old) say:

"More ride in Rover Daddy, please?"

Parents, NEED I SAY MORE?

Now that my girls are a little older (not quite 3 and 4 years old) the request has changed to....  "Daddy leave the rover for us and take the wagon!"......  Hmmmmm  I am the one paying for this thing aren't I?

OK, a drawback you ask?  Well, we are averaging 13.75 MPG.  We have actually gotten 15 MPG on a couple tanks.

SEE LAND ROVER LINKS!

A neat little item we got for this is a bike rack that mounts into the recessed hitch and is able to swing open with the tailgate. If you want to get one too see: Atlantic British LTD on the Rover Links.

Well a sad end came to our Rover on January 12, 2005.

A lady decided to take the right of way when my wife was driving back home from Daytona on SR 415 by the flea market.  The rover was hit in the rear axle which caused it to spin and it ended up flipping on its side and sliding down the road.  My wife (shown above when younger) watched as the road slid by inches from her until the Rover came to a stop.  A man from the RV park on the corner held the passenger door (now at the top of the car) open for her so she could climb out.  Yes, she climbed out and with glass everywhere and parts ajar everywhere she left unscratched, uncut, no broken bones etc.  She is very sore but fine.  It is truly amazing what a God and a Land Rover will do to protect someone.

My girls are devastated by the loss of their Rover.  Unfortunately even though we have a lot of parts for it here we do not think well be able to get another one for quite some time...................
